Coming of Age Day in Kyoto, 成人の日

posted January 15, 2010

Coming of Age Day (2nd Monday in January) is a national holiday on Japan, when those who reached the age of legal adulthood (20) over the past year are bored by speeches at a city assembly hall in their hometowns, then party with their friends. Sometimes the party starts before the speeches. Traditionally, the new adults wear kimono, but many celebrants think waaaay outside the box. This is traditional kimono with winter stole.
