Rites of Boyhood
Gregory went fishing for the first time today at a small river in Yase just a couple stations away from our home. Over the summer he suddenly told me he wanted to go fishing together, and so we waited for the weather to cool off a little. We practiced casting for a few days and then today after school we packed up a started rod & reel and headed for the hills. Greg had fun and was really proud of himself.
We didn’t manage to catch a lunker, but you should have seen the one that got away! (just kidding.) It was nice to see that he was able to sit still, if only for just a few minutes.

Through the mountains to a town of terraced rice paddies
After school today Greg and I rode with Jeffrey and north into Shiga Prefecture and a whole lot of mountainside terraced rice paddies. It was hot, but Greg and Anthony spent most of the time running after each other and playing in a small park we found along the way.
