i’m so glad to hear that americans abroad were able to get their absentee ballots for this election. i live in new york and am looking forward to election day with a mixture of hope and dread. let’s hope that this time around all the absentee ballots are counted and that kerry takes home the gold! :) otherwise, i will be planning my next four years abroad.
Early voting started this week in Texas. And though, in Texas, a vote for Kerry means nothing, you can bet that everyone I know and I am voting for Kerry! Take that electoral college. The people (especially us unemployed, uninsured) for Kerry.

Bush IS the worst president ever!
I heard an interview with a professor of political science on the radio yesterday that authored the book “Why the Electoral College Is Bad for America”.
It was excellent. The book is on Amazon and I think I might get it. He did a great job of explaining why the college was created, why it is outdated, and the numerous ways its screws the USA.

We’re all in agreement, then. Excellent. I’ve already sent in my ballot. By my guess the electoral college vote will be 279-259 for Kerry, but the closeness of the (increasingly unreliable) polls, coupled with the fact that challengers typically get 80% of the undecideds may actually tip the scales in a lot of states.

It makes me so sad that everyone here is a commie 4 kerry. :( Seriously though, I’ll be voting for Bush and I hope for the sake of all I hold dear on this good earth that he wins!
Is there something in the water in Japan that makes people politically ignorant? Or is it something like this: “Oh, I’m so embarrassed to have Bush as my president, people make fun of me because the president of the U.S. is protecting the people who still live there.”
The fact that U.S. military wants Bush to win and the terrorists they’re fighting want him to lose ought to tell you were you stand…
I don’t normally dip into politics here, but the situation is bad and getting worse.
“Commie” is a non-sequitur in the context of this election, so there’s nothing to say about that. If you want to have an honest debate here, I’m wide open to your arguments.
There is nothing in the water that makes people politically ignorant, Sandmich. Plenty of military men and women have registered their opposition to the War in Iraq War, but it is likely that in any presidential election the military vote will go to Republicans. Are you suggesting that we ought to be looking to the military for guidance in public policy and foreign affairs? That’s been tried. It doen’t work. A war’s political aims should be planned by the State Department, then the military should figure out how to apply force to achieve those aims. By short-circuiting State, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Perle, Wolfowitz, Feith, et al. doomed this war.
If you describe the insurgents as “terrorists” rather than admitting that they are “guerrillas” with broad public support, you are deluding yourself. Their methods are desperate and repugnant, but they keep going, and they make it more and more unlikely every day that the puppet government will stand.
Don’t take for granted that the US Mil wants Bush to win. I know a lot of pissed off guys whose tours are being extended repeatedly. Yet the same civilians back home who supposedly “Support The Troops” say stuff like “Tough shit, you signed the contract, deal with it.”
These guys have families and lives just like everyone else; when you’re told you’re going to do a 1yr tour and end up staying for 2-3 years because of a certain administration’s INCOMPETENCE (that’s right) and improper planning in rushing to war, you have a right to be pissed, don’t you agree?
Also don’t take for granted that the terrorists want Bush to lose; Bush has been the best recruiting tool the terrorists have ever had. America is arguably more hated in the world now, thanks to Bush, than it’s ever been. And if you think that will have no impact on our ability to fight terrorism, then you are in for a rude awakening.

Hey Lexy.. if “everything you hold dear on this earth” includes unfairly low wages for the working class, huge tax breaks for the rich (who will get the money in the long run no matter what anyway), the elimination of workers’ rights, sky high oil prices, destruction of the environment, elimination of the middle class (who i assume you and your parents are a part of), and complete freedom for corporations to do what they want well then.. Bush is your man! These are not opinions, these are facts.
If not, then why would you ever vote for him? Think about it.
A working person who votes for Bush is like a chicken who votes for Colonel Sanders.

Anybody notice that if you do a Google search for “worst president ever”, the very first page to come up is the biography of George W. Bush?
And if you look for “george bush is very intelligent” there are only 11 search returns, the first six being my post or references to it.

I can tell you the very moment that our hatred for Bush became complete: when we saw the tape of him JOKING ABOUT THE SEARCH FOR WMD”s, after hundreds of brave young Americans had already died looking for them. His evangelical background has prepared him to believe anything he wants to believe (like there would be no casualties in Iraq, that tax breaks for the wealthiest will help the rest of us, etc.) in the face of any and all evidence to the contrary. That’s bad enough, but laughing about a situation where our troops are being killed is in-sufferable. He is the most evil man ever to sit in the oval office.
yawp. I got mine on sat. I was a bit worried that i wouldn’t get it in time. it came late in 2000. conspiracy.
Got my ballot last week, I think. Now I just need to mail it out. It’s just at the post office, right? No need to pay postage?
Got mine a week ago. Bush is going down.
Got mine on Friday. (Evil grin.) I’ve been wearing a “Veteran for Kerry/Edwards” button that my girlfriend got for me. It gets lots of grins and nods.
Eight days left, and I’m out of the military. YES!
