山城総合運動公園太陽が丘 • Yamashiro Sports Park at Taiyou ga Oka Here’s a recommendation for beating the summer heat in Kyoto. It’s open July 15 – August 31.
I had thought there was a simple public pool at this huge sports complex in Uji, Kyoto, but it turns out there is a really fun water park for kids that will save you time and money compared to going to “The Boon” at Hirakata Park. There is a huge main pool with artificial rock waterfalls, a gentle wave pool, simulated stream, and others. There is plenty of grass for picnicking, wit umbrellas already in place. concession stands sell food and drink, as well as pool toys, sun block, sandals, etc. A separate 25-meter pool and diving center is available at separate admission rates. numerous other outdoor recreation opportunities are available, including an outdoor playground for kids and ballfields.
Admission to the family pool (scroll down to ファミリープール) is ¥1000 for adults, ¥700 for high school students, ¥450 for elementary school and middle school students, ¥100 for infants and toddlers.
Access is by bus bound for Taiyo ga Oka from Keihan Uji Station.

we are international students and we have a 9 months toddler
anywhere in kyoto we can bring her to have fun…play ?b/c of the japanese language we can’t find any hobbies here.

Hi,
You could sit in the stream together at Taiyou ga Oka. When my son was a baby (really too early to call him/her a toddler before walking age) we played in a plastic pool outside in the summer. Another good place to play is Kodomo Miraikan near subway station Marutamachi. (website) It’s free. So is the very similar but bigger Yumekko in Otsu near Hama Otsu station. Here are some good pictures of Yumekko by Jeffrey Friedl, but these show the play area for older kids. There are toys for crawling babies to play with, too.

Another place to cool off in downtown Kyoto is at the small fountain at Imadegawa.
