My name is…

He has enjoyed drawing pictures for a year or so, but a couple months ago Greg suddenly began taking a strong interest in writing, in both Japanese and English, and now he can fill a big sketchbook page in a few minutes with letters and hiragana, sometimes words and sometimes just random combinations. He learned how to write his name and now signs most of his drawings as well. The other day he wanted to draw a momiji (maple leaf) and asked my to draw one that he could copy. I did so, and he went to work on his own drawing while I was reading a book.
He asked me, “Daddy, what’s your name?” because I guess he wanted to sign my picture too. I wondered what he might come up with on his own, so I said “My name is Daddy,” which didn’t satisfy him. I went back to reading, but I vaguely noticed him looking at my feet (I was wearing socks), and then he announced that he had finished his drawing.
I looked at it, and started laughing, and that’s when I realized why he was looking at my feet. His socks, like everything else he takes to kindergarten, have his name written on them.
So now I know that my name is…

That’s awesome. It’s probably a good thing you weren’t wearing “Fruit of the Loom”. ;-)
Way. Too. Precious!!!
