I climbed to the top of the hill over the bridge at Arashiyama in search of monkeys but found instead a small shrine at the very top, with a large bell and a wonderful view down over the valley. I gonged the bell 3x and was glad the monkeys were not to be found.

No, it’s Tenryu-ji in Arashiyama. Headed to Miyako today. If it’s not raining (80% chance) I’ll be out with camera 1200-1330ish.
