Chinese Geomancy in Kyoto, Part 4

posted January 19, 2006

The White Tiger of the West, represented by a street (Rte. 162) and flood control channel bordering the city on the west.

A book with fascinating details like this, plus absolutely stunning photographs, is Marc Peter Keane’s Japanese Garden Design, which covers a lot more ground than you would think. You won’t regret buying this book.

These are the 4 magical creatures of China that date back almost to the beginning of civilisation.
The dragon is usually referred to as the “Green dragon”–kanji for “é’” means “green” in Chinese.

It is interesting that 2 of the creatures are real while 2 are mythical.

More mythical creatures can be found in “The classics of mountain and sea” (山海ç»)
