I left this comment on an earlier post and am dlighted to learn you keep this excellent blog up to date. My family and I are coming to Kyoto 11/20-11/23 and have learned the city is quite crowded do to a festival. But we can’t figure out what festival this is? Any ideas? Thanks.

There is a holiday, Labor Day, on the 23rd, but Kyoto is quite crowded throughout November, not due to a particular festival, but because Kyoto is famous for autumn leaf viewing and draws visitors from all over Japan and overseas. Many temples stay open late in November and have special artistic illumination to accentuate the views.
