The chairman of the NPO, Mr. Nishi, was celebrating the one-year anniversary of opening his Miyagawa-cho machiya, and invited me up for to the second-floor party for sushi and music. The yellow-stringed koto was huge. like a barn door, with 17 strings.

I’ve been busy with new daddy stuff and work stuff, but I think I can now return to my regular posting schedule. Thanks to anyone who still looks.

yeah! you’re back! i love the center photo of woman playing the koto. her fingers are a blur! but what i love most is that her hair is disorderly in a contemporary fashion that is so opposite the traditional hair fashions of old japan. it’s a nice mix of old and new.

Thanks! I just stumbled on this site. I stayed in that room at the NPO just over a year ago! What a fantastic place it was. Is it true that the NPO is no more, because the neighbours complained the guests might burn the (wooden) neighbourhood by accident? That would be a real shame. The people there especially Sensei (Mr. Nishi?) were great. Cheers from Paris

Yes, it’s true that the NPO is gone from the house, but I can’t comment on the reason, because I’ve heard differently.
