Temple passport

posted November 27, 2003

You can buy a temple passport, a little book with folding blank pages at most larger temples.

The idea is to get them stamped and decorated with calligraphy (300 yen here) at the famous sites you visit. Some places have stamps you can apply free, calligraphy costs.

    Hi Nils,
Can you tell us a little bit about this temple passport? Is there a calligrapher in each temple to write down on one’s passport? What do they write?
    Thank you!
PS.: I enjoy your blog a lot, you’re helping me with many tips for my next trip to Japan.
